Maybe I spoke too soon....

Unfortunately the last couple of days have not been so good - I have had some pain in my knees and in my calf muscles. On the plus side it is not nearly as bad today so maybe this flare up is over. It is still early days and the Methotrexate and Folic Acid may take around 12 weeks to kick in. From now on I will talk about Meth and Acid - it sounds waaaay cooler.

Today is a particularly warm and sunny day but because of the Meth I have to be careful in the sun so I am taking a break to write this. I may even have to buy sun cream, something I have never needed in the past.

There are several side effects of Meth according to the booklet I was given. These include feeling sick, headaches, vomiting, diarrhoea, shortness of breath, mouth ulcers and rashes. The only one I have experienced so far is shortness of breath - but I was like that before so it probably doesn't count. I have found another, less known, side effect - flatulence. I fart quite a bit and my farts are foul according to Marian so, if I am in your company, apologies. Don't blame the dog - it's almost certainly me!

I had an eye test this week and everything was fine apart from my eye pressure which was high. I have to go and get it checked again in a few weeks. Apparently this is an early sign of glaucoma. I did a quick Google (yes, I know I shouldn't) and it seems that this is something else that RA can cause. It really is the gift that keeps on giving!

A letter arrived today with an appointment in May with the early arthritis nurse. It's a telephone appointment and, given that it is a month away, obviously non-urgent. so it is not worrying me. I will probably have a long list of questions though.

In a couple of weeks I'm off to a festival in Ibiza so hopefully I will find out if my arthritis gets better during an extended spell of warmth. It will be interesting to see if my hands are not so sore then - especially as I have been talked into attending a ukulele group.

I reckon that's enough for today so I am going outside to brave the sun and heat.

Remember - we need to keep our National Health Service free and for everyone. Being treated for an illness should not be down to how rich you are.

Please keep sharing and commenting - it's good to know that some people are reading, and possibly enjoying, what I write.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying life.

Cheers

  2. Yes hopefully the warmth of ibiza will help with the pain. Will you and Marion be sunning yourselves on one of the beds at Wayne Lineker's Ocean Beach?! This is me being bossy ... you really should wear suntan lotion! My BIL has just been diagnosed with skin cancer. Take care and enjoy ibiza 😉

Hi Rob, Sorry to read you reporting higher pain levels. That’s very wearing. Festival in the sunshine sounds like a good antidote. Keep on keeping on.

  4. Be careful of UAS (ukulele acquisition syndrome). I joined the beginners group in Portugal last October and now own two of the damn things 😊.

It's been a while - sorry.

Hot weather and all that.

Standing too long hurts!
