Fatigue and the cold
I can't remember if I have written about the fatigue aspect of RA before. If I have I apologise, if not, here's something new.
The tiredness that is associated with RA is something that I really find difficult to come to terms with. I have always been a night owl but, especially during flare ups, I really struggle to get out of bed in the mornings and often have to take a nap during the day. It's different when I have to get up for a reason then I just force myself but I really am finding this annoying.
Speaking of getting up early we took a 7.10 train down to Sheffield to see Bellowhead. No problem with the way down but the train on the way back which should have been straight from Sheffield to Aberdeen terminated at Edinburgh so we had to go to Dundee and change there for Aberdeen. As a result we were over an hour and a half late back. On the bright side we should get our money back!
Bellowhead themselves were excellent, as were the support act The Longest Johns. If you get a chance to see either band go - you won't be disappointed. A bonus of going to Sheffield was that we met up with some friends from England. A long way to go for a concert but it was totally worth it. As an aside Sheffield's Christmas Market puts Aberdeen's one to shame.
Before anyone complains - back to the arthritis. As I said a couple of posts ago, I have no idea if the hot weather makes any difference to my arthritis. We are now into a cold spell and, as far as I can tell, it also makes little or no difference. I have had a couple of bad flare ups but I have also had a couple of really good days. Looks like I will just have to make the most of the good days when they happen.
Although I have pain in several places just now, it is my fingers that really concern me at the moment. When I wake up my hands are really painful and a couple of fingers will not bend at all. This eases up during the day but the index finger on my right hand is still painful when I bend it. Compression gloves do help but I am not supposed to wear them for too long. I am going to have a go "playing" the ukulele to see how that goes. I will report back in my next post.
I have an appointment with the rheumatologist in a couple of weeks so we will see how that goes. I still am in awe of the people in the NHS that I have dealings with. They have been wonderful. We need our NHS.
That's all for now - please repost this and comment, whether here or on social media. I really enjoy reading the comments and will try to answer any questions.
Take care.
Rob

ReplyDeleteHi Rob, Have you any understanding of what predisposes you to good days and bad days? Is there context? Or is it completely random? Another great Gig under your belt. Are you minded to attend Celtic Connections coming up. We will miss it this year as we are going to be away.
ReplyDeleteI find cold weather affects my arthritis and long for the sunshine. I’ve found knitting helps the fingers so get Marian to show you how! Are you on the Advent Cruise or Hayling Island? Totally agree about Bellowhead and Longest Johns. Fabulous night.
